Building Services

A substation is only ready for energisation when the building around the switchgear is finished, tested and certified. Building services are often the last package on the programme and the first to be squeezed, which is where uncoordinated trades, missing certification and late snagging cost principal contractors time at handover.

Power-IS delivers complete mechanical and electrical building services for new and existing substations, control buildings and GIS halls as one package, installed to the network operator's specifications, coordinated with the protection and control and primary plant works in the same building, and certified to BS 7671 by the team that installed it.

What the package covers

Small power, lighting and LVAC distribution, including LVAC boards
Fire detection and alarm, security, access control and data and communications cabling
HVAC, ventilation and heating installation and controls, coordinated with the electrical services
Cable containment: tray, ladder, trunking and conduit systems, with earthing and bonding of the building services
Inspection, testing and certification of the LV installation, with as-built records and O&M information for handover
Coordination with the protection and control and primary plant packages within the same substation

Where a package includes the supply of materials, Power-IS can draw on Power-MS design and procurement capabilities and our specialist supply chain partners, so that everything supplied is traceable and aligned with the accepted design. Where a package is better delivered on a free-issue basis, we work to that.

Delivered to our own standards

Every Power-IS operative is onboarded and inducted by Power-IS, supervised by a named Power-IS supervisor and works to our SHESQ standards under the Power-MS ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified management system. ITPs, test results and as-builts are completed as the works progress, so the certification is ready when the installation is.
